Hawaiian music needs a revival on the Big Island
With great Hawaiian musicians like the great Gary Haleamau going to other lands to make a living, Hawaii, which is decrepit, goes further down the tubes. In Haleamau’s case, the Big Island lost one of it’s main Hawaiian musical entertainers.
Tons of Hawaiian musicians have gone to the Land Of The Sun and I honor Japan for keeping Hawaiian and contemporary Hawaiian music alive and well. No need of Japan tourists coming to Hawaii for they have more of true Hawaii in Japan.
All in all, we need the promoters of musical venues featuring more Hawaiian music entertainers. After all, this is Hawaii. Enough said, case closed.

Proposed Kona development doesn’t fit
Conveniently tucked into the brush along the highway between Lako and Pualani Estates, mauka side of the highway is a new development sign for a 450-unit high density condominium development. The sign can barely be seen looking from the highway.
The Royal Vistas development is proposed to be two- and three-story 176 market rate rentals and 274 market rate for sale units that allows short-term vacation rentals.
They are asking for a 10-year time extension for the first phase of rental unit. This is crazy to destroy this land and put these monster buildings up the mountain. They do not fit in with the surrounding area of single- and two-story homes. More for speculation buyers?
More traffic in our already stop-and-go traffic and the additional run off from the buildings and roadway will lead to more flooding.
More importantly is the significant pre- and post-contact artifacts all over this site including burial sites, coffee shack, food terraces, twin walls of the Holualoa slide, a national trail, and much undiscovered. Also the endangered and threatened species, Hawaiian hawks, owls, hoary bat, and giant moth habit.
No help for reasonable housing here just greedy developers. Too big for this location.
Where are our Land protectors? Historical commission? Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
The public needs to have their comments into the County of Hawaii Planning Department before Aug. 9 regarding Royal Vistas Development, Zone Ordinance 02 131, TMK (3) 7-6-021:016 and 017.
